July 27, 2005 regular village board meeting
Village of Wonewoc Proceeding of regular Village Board meeting July 27, 2005.
The meeting was called to order pursuant to the posted and published notice. The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. The following trustees present for meeting: Field, Norling, Roehling, Miller, Ott, and Decot. Jennings arrived at 7:07pm.
Motion by Ott, seconded by Roehling to approve the bills and vouchers for the month of July. Motion carried.
Motion by Norling, seconded by Ott to approve the minutes of the June 22, 2005 board meeting. Motion carried.
Police Report—Chief Ott reported on Police activities for the month of June. There were 75 calls for service and 23 arrests. Through June 30, 2005 there have been a total of 372 calls. For the same time last year the total calls were 386. It is typical for case load to go up in the summer. Question was asked if there was an ordinance limiting the number of dogs a place can have. This will be placed on agenda for next month.
Agenda:
1. Based on the Public Hearing for the Water Tower, the Village residents would rather repair the current water tower than replace it. The first step will be to empty the reservoir and have it cleaned and inspected. We will have to get a tank and trailer so that the 3 homes and the Spiritualist Camp can be having water service. The 2 homes off the hill will also have to have a way to receive water. To keep the rest of the Village in water the water will be pumped against the main. To complete this step will take a minimum of 4 to 5 days. This includes draining reservoir, inspect and refilling the reservoir. The WI DNR is giving us 2 months to get the inspection done. After the inspection we will have to send a letter to the DNR stating what the Village intentions are and pledge to complete them in a very short time. We also have to respond to the DNR regarding the August 1, 2005 deadline.
Bohn recommended having Lane Tank Co, Inc. do the inspection and cleaning. This is based on conversations with Wisconsin Rural Water Association. Lane Tank is a Wisconsin company, working only in the state. They have been in business for approximately 50 years. Motion by Field to hire Lane Tank Co., Inc. to inspect and clean the water reservoir. Seconded by Ott. Motion carried.
2. After discussion the Board decided they were not interested in selling the Fire Station building.
Public Comment:
1. Bill Bruce, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hillsboro, announced that in 60 days they will have a physician practiceing in Wonewoc. Hopefully this will be in colaboration with Gunderson. They are planning on accepting any insurance that an individual may have.
St. Joseph’s Hospital is planning in the future to provide pre-hospital care by providing paramedic service to the area. The goal is to get everyone the right level
of care in half the time that they currently are receiving. Half of the time the helicopter can not get here when it is called either because of bad weather or on another call. They hope to have the opportunity of providing paramedic service to the Wonewoc area. They believe this would create 12 jobs with 6 paramedics and 6 EMT’s plus a director and total payroll of over $300,000.
2. Todd Kellner said he has issued building permit for Robert and Michelle Pagel to build a new house. Wanted to know if any one had any questions.
3. Joe Reinhart and Beck Sochenberger asked the status of the dam being removed from Jiggle Creek. Wonewoc had a new DNR warden. Mrs. Gardner apparently told him that the Village was removing the dam that she placed in the creek after it had been determined that she would have her sons help her remove the dam. Joe will talk with the DNR Warden to enforce removal of the dam.
4. Ann Degner, Jane and Chuck Straub representing the WMMA would like to have a Farmer’s Market on Friday’s during the growing season from 2:00pm to 5:00/6:00pm. Concessis was to try it beginning this Friday and see what happens.
Communication/Announcements:
1. Linda Reeder discussed voter registration that is being mandated by the State Election Board. Beginning January 1, 2006 all voters will have to be registered to vote before they can vote in an election.
Questioned the Board on their opinion of purchasing the old Briggs property that is currently owned by Juneau County. The Village can purchase it for $1.00 and will have to remove the house before the property can be sold. Reeder will investigate the cost to clean up the property and report back to the Board.
2. Roehling said Gasser’s will be repairing Highway 33 in front of Lawton’s next week. Motion by Jennings, seconded by Roehling to adjourn at 8:59pm. Motion carried.
